Honouring Women in the Rare Disease Community

International Women’s Day 2026

This International Women’s Day 2026, HHT Ireland proudly celebrates the women across Ireland and beyond who strengthen and sustain the Rare Disease community.

Women are at the heart of rare disease care — as patients, carers, advocates, nurses, doctors, researchers and volunteers.

Their resilience and dedication ensure that families feel supported and that progress continues, even in the face of complex challenges.

We especially recognise the invaluable role of carers and the commitment of women healthcare professionals.

At the same time, we acknowledge the ongoing gender health gap, where disparities in research, diagnosis and treatment can delay care and impact outcomes for women — an issue that can be even more pronounced in rare diseases.

Today is both a celebration and a call to action.
We remain committed to amplifying women’s voices, supporting equitable healthcare and building a stronger, fairer future for everyone in our community.

Happy International Women’s Day to all our women out there.
